Start Problem with PCMCIA 350 WLAN card

Hello all,

after my search on different search engines failed, I finally try in this way to get a solution to my problem.

The problem seems to be a start problem. I have a Cisco PCMCIA WLAN 802.11b card of 350 series. Every thing is installed properly (i hope so). If I insert the card into my Linux (Redhat laptop, drivers are initialising properly. But if I use the inbuit tool "iwconfig" and check the entries of the interface, I get ESSID " " and AP as FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. Things are not functioning good. I even tried to set AP or ESSID using iwconfig, but no success.

BUT, if I just start cisco tool "ACU" and close it, without doing any thing (just start and exit) then things are functioning good and I don't have any problem with the card and its assosiation to the AP.

I would be happy to solve this problem as it is creating some times headace, if I want to write my own tools.

Thanking you in advance,

Regards

Felix

thank you for answering,

i have already installed all the required things and able to use the acu successfully. My problem may be in initialising the respective modules (airo_cs and airo). Though I don't start the acu after the PCMCIA card is inserted, it is modlist is showing airo_cs is loaded. I get following in log file

-----------------

Feb 18 11:53:53 bchk1vcc cardmgr[633]: starting, version is 3.2.4

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc kernel: cs: memory probe 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: clean.

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc cardmgr[633]: socket 1: 350 Series Wireless LAN Adapter

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc rc: Starting pcmcia: succeeded

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc cardmgr[633]: executing: 'modprobe airo_cs'

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc kernel: airo: MAC enabled eth1 0:d:65:5f:73:b0

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc kernel: eth1: index 0x05: Vcc 5.0, Vpp 5.0, irq 3, io 0

x0180-0x01bf

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc cardmgr[633]: executing: './network start eth1'

Feb 18 11:53:53 bc1vc /etc/hotplug/net.agent: invoke ifup eth1

-----------------

But I am not able to assosiate with my access point. Once I start the ACU tool, I get following message in log

---------------

Feb 18 11:57:43 bc1vc modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth2

Feb 18 11:57:43 bc1vc modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth3

Feb 18 11:57:43 bc1vc modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth4

Feb 18 11:57:44 bc1vc kernel: airo: Got weird status 1000

Feb 18 11:58:15 bc1vc last message repeated 7 times

---------------

After the "Got Weird", I can quit ACU tool and use the PCMCIA card without any problem.

How can I over come starting ACU before I can use the WLAN card.

regards
