The AIR-ANT2451NV-R : a circle or a square?

Hi guys,

I'm planning on mounting an Aironet WAPs on the ceiling. I need it to look presentable, so I'm thinking of getting the AIR-ANT2451NV-R, which I think is a dome-shaped unit. Trouble is, I've seen Cisco's product documention depict it as a rectanglular unit, under the same model number. The client really wants the circular version.

Anyone recently install this antenna? What does it look like, and did you have a choice?

Thanks!

  Joe

Looks like they have a misprint.  The image is of the AIR-ANT2451V-R.

It's dome-shapped.

By the way, how do I rate posts?

Ive deployed about 30 of these and they are actually good performers...

Thanks for the ratings.  I forgot to mention that the AIR-ANT2451NV can also be used on the new 3500e wireless access point (with built-in Spectrum Analyzer).

All,

Do you guys know if the AIR-ANT2451NV-R is able to cover the same range as the regular dipoles (2.2dBi 2.4 GHz, 3.5 dBi 5GHz)?

Thanks, --Marina

Most definitely not.  The horizontal footprint would be very, very different.

Re: The AIR-ANT2451NV-R : a circle or a square?

Let's say I have a square office or studio, AIR-ANT2451NV-R would propagate 360 (omnidirectional) same as the dipoles, if they are placed on the ceiling center, what would be the difference then? I am familiar with the dipoles as they are cheaper, but considering the AIR-ANT2451NV-R is way more expensive, I was expecting it to be better, even though it is the same dBi. Please, share your thoughts.

No it's NOT!  Have you compared the horizontal and vertical azimuth of the AIR-ANT2451NV-R against the dipole?

Re: The AIR-ANT2451NV-R : a circle or a square?

I verified and I did not find that much of a difference when comparing at 2.4GHz. I just want to understand why it is so much more expensive, it can not be just esthetics.

2.4GHZ - 2.2dBi AIR-ANT2422DW-R

Azimuth 3dB Beamwidth

Omnidirectional

Elevations 3dB Beamwidth

65 degrees

2.4GHZ - 2.5dBi AIR-ANT2451NV-R

Azimuth 3dB Beamwidth

Omnidirectional

Elevations 3dB Beamwidth

63 degrees

5GHZ - 3.5dBi AIR-ANT5135DW-R

Azimuth 3dB Beamwidth

Omnidirectional

Elevations 3dB Beamwidth

40 degrees

5GHZ - 3.5dBi AIR-ANT2451NV-R

Azimuth 3dB Beamwidth

Omnidirectional

Elevations 3dB Beamwidth

55 degrees

Re: The AIR-ANT2451NV-R : a circle or a square?

Nuts.  Them dipoles.  I'm so used to calling them rubber-ducks.

Two things.  The 2451 is a "two-in-one" a/b/g/n antenna in a single unit (six pigtails).  While them dipoles or "rubber duck/duckies" cost very less (per unit).

Why are they costly?  I don't know.

Re: The AIR-ANT2451NV-R : a circle or a square?

Both the Cisco documentation and this thread is confusing. The AIR-ANT2451NV-R= antenna I've been using was delivered as a rectangle device, with only 4 RP-TNC connectors, 2 for each radio (A, B connectors).

The data sheet for the AIR-ANT2451NV-R= antenna you link to above (and the only datasheet I can find) shows the azimuth and elevation patterns for 3 antennas (A, B, C) despite the fact that there is no 3rd cable for C.

I know Cisco doco is typically contradicting, but this one is quite a long way out...
