upgrading cisco 1130 autonomous AP to lightweight

Hi,

I have 1130 access point which suppose to connect at one of the remote office and my controller is connected to corporate office.

remote office AP's are working in H-Reap mode and registered with corporate office controller.

Now i want to upgrade it from one of the remote office.

Is it possible to convert from remote office without using upgrade tool.

If yes ... how can it be ?

what is the procedure to convert ?

As i have gone through cisco site to find the procedure , I came to know that controller should be in same subnet where ap is in ..

Once AP boots , I am getting into Rommon mode

ap:

how to convert to lightweight with this rommon mode ?

I will be obliged to get the proper answer instead of any site to be reffered .

Please share the knowledge.

Re: upgrading cisco 1130 autonomous AP to lightweight

Hi,

You talk about different things and then mix all of them...

H-REAP is a simple mode of an LWAPP AP.

The AP lwapp software is upgraded/downgraded automatically when you upgrade/downgrade the WLC software.

They do not need to be in the same subnet they only need to be reachable, and the AP needs to be joined to the WLC.

Whenever an AP joins to a WLC, the first thing it does is to see if it is running the corresponding version of software. If not, the AP will automatically download the corresponding image fro mthe WLC and reload with the correct version.

So there is nothing to do on the AP orhter than make sure it joins the WLC. Then they do the rest automatically.

Now, you say the AP is in rommon mode...this means there is no IOS at all installed, so at least you need a base image.

To get a base image into the AP you can follow the procedure:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html.

Tiago

Let me understand this correctly.  You want to convert the AP from Autonomous to CAPWAP/LWAP remotely.

Here's the process:

1.  Copy the "rcv" image into the AP of your choice;

2.  Ensure the AP will boot this image;

3.  Reload the AP;

4.  Change the switch port from Trunk to Access port.

NOTE:  Not sure what firmware your WLC/WiSM is but 6.X and 7.X has a better "AP search feature" compared to the 4.X and 5.X.
