Using software to find least congested Wireless Channel, help

Hi.

I would like to know if there is a simple software product available that I could use to check the congestion of Wireless Channels 1-11.

There's far too many wireless routers around my own access point, with an unknown amount of traffic on each, on unknown channels.

I am able to connect with my own access point just fine, but speeds are inconsistant, and less than optimal.

Would appreciate any information on how to check channels for congestion. Thanks

PS - My wireless router does not have an "Auto" feature for channel.

If that is the case, then you have alot of free softwares that can do this ...

NetStumbler and inSSIDer are good examples.

Try the Carrier Busy test.  The command is "dot11 dot110 c b".  Wait for about 5 seconds and then use the "sh logs" to get your result.  The lower the number the better the result.

Wat LEO stated is one of the easiest that you can try.. However the carrier busy test will bring down the radio for less than a second and the radio will come back up.. make sure this is not done in the production.. coz the clients will loose the connectivity for a second..

I guess I should have mentioned, I am not using a cisco brand device currently. Have I misplaced my post?

I'm using a simple ISP provided multifunction device. There seems to be a large number of networks very close to my own. A lot of them ever have a greater signal strength. It would be helpful to know which channels are highly congested and which are available for my own traffic.

Thanks
