WEP+MAC authentication does not work correctly

Hi, everybody,

I'm trying to implement static WEP + MAC authentication on an AP1200 without an Access server. (instead of WEP only).

AP1200 version 12.01

350 Series client 4.25.30

So, I add the 'authorized' MAC's in to the Associations/Address filter panel.

And configure the Radio as follows:

AP Radio: Internal SSID #1

Service Set ID (SSID): aaaaa

Accept Authentication Type: OPEN

Require EAP: NO

Default Unicast Address Filter: DISALLOWED

==> With this config, ANY MAC can connect to the whole network!

Trying another config:

AP Radio: Internal SSID #1

Service Set ID (SSID): aaaaa

Accept Authentication Type: OPEN

Require EAP: YES

Default Unicast Address Filter: DISALLOWED

==> With this config, only registered MAC's of Cisco 350 clients can connect.

No Access server is defined.

3COM NIC's, even if in the allowed MAC's, cannot connect. (Our 3COM NIC does not support EAP).

Does somebody know the exact config of the 1200AP, to use WEP+MAC authentication, using as well Cisco 350 PCMCIA adapters as 3COM non EAP enabled adapters?

Thanks for your help,

Jean-Michel

Re: WEP+MAC authentication does not work correctly

a)

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wireless/airo_350/accsspts/ap350scg/ap350ch8.htm#1029067

Above url shows procedure to configure the AP .

b)

If you are doing WEP you don't need require EAP =yes .

Are you using radius for mac address database ?

or are you creating mac address locally ?

After you configure the AP have you tried rebooting AP

and see if it works ?

c)

"Is MAC Authentication alone sufficient for a client to be fully authenticated? "

How is the above option configured on AP ?

Keep it default

Thanks for your reply.

Great, it works!!! The only change I had to do is the setting of 'c)'. I clicked back to the default setting ('no'), and it works fine.

Have a nice day,

Re: WEP+MAC authentication does not work correctly

Hi,

I have the exact same problem in my IOS based 1200, but i cannot find this setting; "is mac address authentication enough".

Do you happen to know where this is set on a 1200 AP using IOS (12.2.8)
