What happens with an AP that is no longer supported by a WLAN controller firmware version when it reboots?

Not applicable

Hello,

I have a 5508 WLC, and have just upgraded it to 8-3-121.0 so I can support the new 2800 series APs. However, I noticed that the 1252 and 1242 series that I still have running were not pre-downloading the new image. I checked the release notes and noticed those are no longer supported.

I have not rebooted the head unit yet, as I have quite a few of the 1242/1252 APs, and need to find out what happens with those APs once the head unit is rebooted and the new image is active? Do the 1242s & 1252s become bricks, or continue to function and just not get any more updates?

I'm thinking they will become bricks, but am looking for someone to help me confirm if this is the case.

Thank you in advance,

Tom

They wont be able to connect to the WLC any more, making them useless.

Thank you for confirming Philip.
