I am studying for the Wireless LAN Specialization. I have gone through the on-line web seminars. What I would like to know is how do I judge when I am ready to take the test. Is there anyone out there that can give me a topical list of what is covered on the exam, since Cisco has negleted to do this?

If you have taken the on-line SE & FE training for the specialization, you should be prepared. Learn how to use the antenna calculator. Good luck

Is the test that easy? After testing for the CCNA I am a little dubious. I realize this is an open book test but how picky is Cisco on this test. I have done some site surveys as well as a couple of installs.

Are there any other areas I should concentrate on?

I saw someone selling a CD on Ebay for what you want.....The person has many of them, since it sold, and another was relisted by the same person. I'm just too cheap to pay the 50 bucks that they were going for...

What is the test number for the Cisco wireless specialization test. What is the infromation covered? Is it really open book? I passed my CCNA last month, how does the wireless test compare in difficulty?

The Cisco Wireless LAN Specialisation is a "Partner" specialisation - it is for Cisco Partners, not individuals.

If you belong to a Cisco Partner, you can fulfill one of the required job roles (See http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/765/partner_programs/specialization/wlan/requirements.shtml).

The "Wireless LAN Exam for SEs and FEs v2.0" can be taken online at Certification.net or the Cisco Partner E-Learning Connection (PEC) - it costs US$35 and takes 2 Hours. There is no "Exam Number" (like the CCNA) that I could find.

All the material is covered in the Aironet WLAN Technical & Site Survey training. Depending on your level of experience, it can be similar to the CCNA.

There currently seems to be no WLAN Cisco Certification (like the CCNA/DA/NP/DP/IE - for individuals). Hopefully something might appear in the future, but I haven't seen any announcements.

When I took the test, it consisted of 50 questions and you were allowed 75 minutes.

I missed several questions, but since it was open book, I'm pretty sure I almost all of them right. Another engineer from my company also missed 4. I think there are a few questions with the wrong recorded answer.

Does anyone know how to compare you answers vs the "correct" answer? And how to register a complaint about an apparently wrong test answer?

I took the test in the later part of 2001 and at the time there wasn't even a time limit, however, a colleague of mine recently took it and was 'quite surprised' to discover the introduction of the 75 min time limit... I do concur with the the assessment that some of the questions seem to have the wrong recorded answers, as do many of the other people I have spoken to regarding this test, but more worrying was the fact that after failing the test at the first attempt, my colleague decided to sit it again there and then, went through all the preliminary bits and pieces with c/cards and what have you, then started the test to find that the 'timeleft' was about 10 mins (the time left over from the previous test!!) meaning that he had to rush through it and consequently failed a second time with another 35 bucks down the drain... It took a further 2 attempts before it finally decided to let him pass (each subsequent time sitting on a different PC - just in case the thing with the time re-occured), and he did take screenprints of the questions in the subsequent tests order to go through CCO and the training material in an attempt to prove that they were correct, but for the sake of 100 bucks (paid for by the company anyway) the amount of time it would have taken didnt seem worth it, and as you say, as for how you go about registering a complaint, we've absolutely no idea. For anyone thinking of taking the test, I would recommend 1) reading as much as you can on CCO and elsewhere about wireless, and dont just rely on the training material, because I saw a few questions that im quite certain were simply were not covered in it 2) If you fail the first time, change PC before you resit the exam 3) Print your answers, as you may well feel you want to check them when for no apparent reason you find you only get 72%. Oh, and best of luck.
