I have created a vlan comprised of the switch ports that attach a wireless access point to the Ethernet net. Laptops, (most of them using an Aironet 350 NIC) can get a DHCP address from the server but Symbol RF units cannot. I have temporarily resolved this by hard coding IP addresses on the Symbols but ultimately would like to make DHCP work. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Are you sure the symbol device is fully associated and authenticated
Remeber with static wep and open authentication you can be associated but have a mis match in wep keys which then means no IP traffic can pass.
If they are then try a sniffer and make sure the symbol client is sending the dhcp discover etc

Yes they authenticate fine, it appears the Symbol devices are using the old Novell client - lsl.com, ipx.com, netx.com/DR DOS. I haven't worked with that client in probably 10 years. I am starting to suspect that client stack is a big part of the problem.
