Re: Wireless Questions

Recommended Tool for wireless site survey

AirMagnet Survey Pro or Ekahau

recommended document to place the AP on wall or ceiling

This is your deliverable so it's up to you what you use.

what is the max bandwidth available on LAP ( comparision matrx for different LAP on bandwidth )

All the newer 802.11N APs have gigabit Ethernet ports do you need to calculate what the required bandwidth per user is.

Can 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz Antenna be installed on the same LAP

There are APs with builtin antennas, but if you use an ap with external, you need to make sure you use the correct antenna for each of the radios.

Are upgrade/downgrade of AP doable from LAP to Standaone and vice-versa

Yes

config questionsWLC and AP needs to be in the same vlan or different vlan

Either way

can AP be assigned static IP or need dynamic IP

Either way

Guest VLAN get IP from WLC DHCP service or need from Windows AD infrastructure

Wireless Questions

Recommended Tool for wireless site survey

Airmagnet Site Survey or Ekahau.

According to George, Ekahau will soon be releasing an iPad version soon.

recommended document to place the AP on wall or ceiling

Depends on the model of your WAP.  An internal-antenna WAP can be mounted on a wall without any changes.   A WAP with an external antenna can be mounted on the wall but you need to make adjustments to your antenna or find a suitable antenna for wall mounting.  I mean, you don't want a "disco stick" and mount your antenna against a wall.  Instead you may consider looking at a patch antenna for wall mounting.

Can 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz Antenna be installed on the same LAP

There are two models of WAPs.  One with a single radio (2.4 Ghz only) and dual radio.  With WAPs with external antenna, you can choose to purchase an antenna with a single pigtail, double pigtail, triple pigtail or quad pigtail.

Are upgrade/downgrade of AP doable from LAP to Standaone and vice-versa

Conversion from controller-based IOS to autonomous IOS is as easy as a press of a button.  The downside is this:  The WAP has to be there with you or you can't press the button.

If the WAP has joined to a controller, you can covert it down to autonomous by using a single CLI command.

Converting from autonomous IOS to controller-based IOS is simply using a single CLI command.

WLC and AP needs to be in the same vlan or different vlan

In production, the WAP is recommended to be in different VLANs.

can AP be assigned static IP or need dynamic IP

Whatever floats your boat.  I'd prefer DHCP.
