WiSM-2 Cat6500 VSS error in setting mngt address

Hi, need some help with this issue.

We have two 6500's in VSS mode (Sup2T) each with a single WiSM2 in slot 9.

First configured service VLAN/subnet, all working fine, both WiSMs are oper-up showing a sevice VLAN address.

Next to set the mngt IP adressen on the WiSM with the config wizard. First one goes normally, but when trying to configure the second WiSM with a management address from the same mngt subnet as the first one (but different subnet then service VLAN) we get an error message:

Error in setting management interface IP

We have no idea why. Anyone?

On the first WiSM, post the output to the command "show interface detailed management".  Next, post the output of the configuration wizard to the second WiSM.

WiSM-2 Cat6500 VSS error in setting mngt address

We found something in the log;

000905: Dec  5 07:03:09: %QM-SW1-2-VLAN_BASED_MODE_ON_EC_MEMBER_PORT: Port-channel705[0] and TenGigabitEthernet1/9/2[1] have different vlan-based mode

000906: 000102: Dec  5 07:03:09: %QM-SW2_STBY-2-VLAN_BASED_MODE_ON_EC_MEMBER_PORT: Port-channel705[0] and TenGigabitEthernet1/9/2[1] have different vlan-based mode

could that be the cause of the issue?

Re: WiSM-2 Cat6500 VSS error in setting mngt address

Hi,

Did you ever get this resolved?

I have the same issue. We have 2 WISM2s, and one works fine, the other just keeps saying Error in setting management interface IP in the setup screen, is there any way to cancel this ridiculous setup menu pre-school thing and maybe look at some logs, or try to resolve the issue with a CLI?

Oddly enough this seemed to happened out of the blue. We had the 2 WISM configured and working, but now one is at the menu screen, and the other seems to be ticking along quite nicely.

Also, the factory default reset option Cisco describe is devoid of the #4 option to reset to factory settings.

Cheers,

Matt

Post the output to the command "sh interface detailed management".  Take out the IP address (if necessary).

Well, in the mean while the issue was reported to TAC, and they are starting an RMA procedure. It's a real issue, not a configuration mistake. Thanks all.

I can't get to the WiSM to do that.

The Set-up is as follows:

Service Vlan : 300, Service IP Subnet : 192.168.200.2/255.255.248.0

      WLAN

Slot  Controller  Service IP       Management IP    SW Version    Controller Type    Status

----+-----------+----------------+----------------+------------+------------------+---------------

25    1           192.168.201.172  192.168.215.180  7.4.110.0    WS-SVC-WISM-2-K9   Oper-Up

41    1           192.168.202.6    192.168.215.200  7.4.110.0    WS-SVC-WISM-2-K9   Oper-Up

CORE#sh wism switch 1 mod 9 cont 1 stat

WiSM Controller 1 in Slot 25 configured with auto-lag

Operational Status of the Controller : Oper-Up

Service VLAN                         : 300

Service Port                         : 3

Service Port Mac Address             : 6c20.562c.6f41

Service IP Address                   : 192.168.201.172

Management IP Address                : 192.168.215.180

Software Version                     : 7.4.110.0

Port Channel Number                  : 705

Allowed-vlan list                    : 10,80,310

Native VLAN ID                       : 310

WCP Keep Alive Missed                : 0

The Slot 41 WiSM2 is woking fine....

Consoling into the SLot 25 WiSM2 just sends me back to the start of the setup script! I can't seem to get out of this ludicrus setup script.

Unless someone knows some tricks to reset this thing back to factory, the RMA is looking much more likely.
