WiSM IOS upgrade

Hi all,

In order to support the newer n radios we are upgrading the WiSM IOS to 5.2.157.0 from 4.2.176.0.If someone could advice us the caveats that we might come across, it would be most appreciated.

cheers,

Janesha

Re: WiSM IOS upgrade

Skip 5.2.157, go to 5.2.178. `157 has/had many bugs.

Some of the RRM power level stuff has changed.

AP GROUPS have changed ... I like the new way.

If you define DHCP on the WLAN vs interface you may have problems.

L2 Peer to peer blocking has changed for better.

You can - so I am told - modify PSKs with WCS now.

Don't know the size/layout of your network so some may not impact you , but just skip to .178

Check your router code level to make sure it is "new" enough.

Re: WiSM IOS upgrade

How desperate are you? New IOS will be coming out soon.

One thing to note though, no one has yet seen the new IOS so bugs and quirks are not readily known.

Re: WiSM IOS upgrade

Hi Leo,

Thanks for the news.We are not that desperate but just need to get the 802.11n working.

On the topic of the new IOS hmmm..I tend to agree with the old saying "known devil is better the unknown angel" :)

BTW, whats the IOS you guys running?

Thanks,

Re: WiSM IOS upgrade

Hi Janesh,

We are running the 5.2.178.0.

If you are willing, you can load the 5.2.178.0 and when the new version arrives load that too. If you believe that the new version IOS is buggy then you can always tell the WiSM to load the backup IOS, which is 5.2.178.0.

Whatever your choice may be, make sure you also load the bootstrap image as well.

If you intend to use 802.11n, what model of the AP do you have in mind? The only 802.11n that requires the latest 5.1.X.X is the 1140 series. The 1250 can operate in the 4.X.X.X IOS.

Hope this helps.

Re: WiSM IOS upgrade

Upgrading to 5.2 will also mean moving from LWAPP to CAPWAP, so keep in mind the ports change from UDP 12222/12223 to UDP 5246/5247.
