I don't know about Nexus. What is a fact is that it can't work usually when plugging ports on different switches.
It does work with VSS because the 2 switches can act as 1. So if the Nexus is able to build the portchannel across the 2 nexus and is able to balance the packets with "src-dest-ip" load balancing, then yes it will work.
Actually the WLC doesn't negotiate or doesn't do anything special than sending back traffic from where it came from.
