I have a WLC 4402 and reading it says it can handle 12, 25,or 50 AP's. How can I tell how many my appliance will actually controll?

On the Monitor page in the gui at the top right above the image of the controller you will see the number of APs supported. (at least in 4.2.207.0 anyway). Or you can do a "show sysinfo" from the CLI.
