WLC 5508 / 2602e LAP / Dropped Connections

We are starting to experience some dropped connections while utilizing a 5508 WLC (SW: 7.4.100.0) with 2602e LAP's.  The connections seem to drop for 1-2 seconds and then reconnect on their own.  Machines and cards are varied.  Any thoughts?

You should upgrade your software code to 7.4.110.0 minimum. Also makesure you ugpraded your FUS.

The current version you are running is not a good platform

Re: WLC 5508 / 2602e LAP / Dropped Connections

What is the current recommended stable version for the 5508 and FUS?

Re: WLC 5508 / 2602e LAP / Dropped Connections

FUS: 1.7.0.0

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_1_7_0_0.html

Here is the FUS upgrade process & it easily take 30-40 downtime to your wireless.

WLC: 7.4.110.0 (7.4MR1) is the recommended/stable version. But if you want to go to latest bug fixed version in 7.4 you can go for 7.4MR2 pre-release

Re: WLC 5508 / 2602e LAP / Dropped Connections

1. Is this only happening to 2602E APs? What about the rest of your APs?
2. DId you upgrade the wireless NIC drivers?

Re: WLC 5508 / 2602e LAP / Dropped Connections

We only utilize 2602E LAPs.  We are just finalizing a rollout of this infrastructure and have applied the latest drivers for the wireless cards during rollout.

Re: WLC 5508 / 2602e LAP / Dropped Connections

Post the output to the command "debug client " and "sh client detail ".

On the client, what is the signal strength of the SSID?  On the WLC, what is the signal strength of the client?

What is the model of the antenna you are using and how far is the AP/Antenna relative to the client?

Do you see this happening with 802.11b/g or 802.11a/n or all?

Just adding to Leo, and Rasika..

Just check these features

The User Idle Timeout: When a user is idle without any communication with the LAP for the amount of time set as User Idle Timeout, the client is deauthenticated by the WLC. The client has to reauthenticate and       reassociate to the WLC. It is used in situations where a client can drop out from its associated LAP without notifying the LAP.

The Session Timeout is the maximum time for a client session with the WLC. After this time, WLC de-authenticates the client, and the client goes through the whole authentication (re-authentication) process again.

This parameter can be accessed from the WLANs > Edit menu.

Hope it helps.

Regards
