WLC2112 with AP1131AG and Guest Access

Hi!

We are planning to convert the 8 units of Stand alone AP1131s to Lightweight mode and purchase the WLC2112 to centrally manage the WLAN.

My questions are:

1.  Does the WLC2112 has built-in support for allowing Guest Access?

2.  Does the WLC2112 support the 8 units of AP1131s joining it after conversion to Lightweight mode?  How is it done correctly?

3.  Can the WLC2112 authenticate users already in the MS Active Directory?

4.  Just having the WLC2112 and APs combination, is  WLAN solution complete already?  Is it still necessary to have the WCS software to enable Guest Access?  You see we'd like to keep costs down.

Thanks very much for your kind and generous assistance!

Best regards,

Fidel Serrano

Hi Fidel,

Please see responses inline:

1.  Does the  WLC2112 has built-in support for allowing Guest Access?

yes

2.  Does  the WLC2112 support the 8 units of AP1131s joining it after conversion  to Lightweight mode?

Yes, the WLC2112 supports up to 12 access points.

How is it done correctly?

3.  Can the  WLC2112 authenticate users already in the MS Active Directory?

Yes, with either a radius or ldap server as well:

4.   Just having the WLC2112 and APs combination, is  WLAN solution complete  already?  Is it still necessary to have the WCS software to enable  Guest Access?  You see we'd like to keep costs down.

WCS isn't necessary, but is useful for managing larger deployments of multiple controllers

Thanks very  much for your kind and generous assistance!
