WR and Reload Problem with AP

Hi All,

I am having more than 5000 Autonomus  AP's in my network and for taking backup config from this AP's we are using some Unix server.

Many of the Ap's work fine when taking backup. but few AP's show some logs, which causes UNIX box to keep the session for more time.

ap04#sh users

    Line       User       Host(s)              Idle       Location

*  1 vty 0     vooot001    idle                 00:00:00

                                                      ap02.u009x4.xx.com

   2 vty 1                idle                07:33:12

                                                       isp.u009x4.xx.com

so we cant save the config even manually.

But when we cleat the line vty, every thing work fine.

But other AP's with similar IOS work fine. Not able to find where the problem is.

Re: WR and Reload Problem with AP

Maybe see if you can set a timeout for the line. The issue your having is that the line sill shows in use correct?

Thanks for reply.

Thats a good idea, but why it's not happaning with other AP's which has similar IOS etc.

Is this you are ref:

ap04(config-line)#timeout login response 200

Re: WR and Reload Problem with AP

Hi Satya,

Can be due to many things:

1. The issuecomes when you have a large configuration file and immediately after exiting the configuration mode you attempt to save the configuration in NVRAM.  The issue is related to an internal timer event whose behavior cannot be modified. If you give a sufficient time between an exit from configuration mode before saving the configuration the problem will not resurface.

2. This can caused by high activity on CLI. Probably, a sh run is taking place or any other action that locks the executation of the CLI cmd.

Inshort:

1.) Memory Allocation - Reboot resolved the issue ?, I can't remember if we waiting long enough if the problem subsided on its own.

2.) Someone else was looking at the config at the same time.

Check these, It may helps.

WR and Reload Problem with AP

Hi Sandeep,

As said before, if we clear the line vty user, am able to save config/reload/sh run....the external UNIX box use to save the config everyday, this user( isp.u009x4.xx.com) is not able to save the config, so its keepon trying. After i clear this user, every thing work fine.

Re: WR and Reload Problem with AP

Hi Satya,

I think Scott suggested session time out under VTY lines. In this way any session would not last more than 5 min if you are inactive on that VTY.

AAP2(config)#line vty 0 5

AAP2(config-line)#session-timeout ?

<0-35791>  Session timeout interval in minutes

AAP2(config-line)#session-timeout 5

I am having more than 5000 Autonomus  AP's in my network

Just for curiosity,What's the reason for having such a large autonomous environment ? Would controller based solution not fulfil your requirements ?

Unable to read configuration. Try again later.

This means your IOS is buggy.

No it's a bug.

Just because you have other appliances running the same IOS and do not show the same result does not mean it's not a bug.  I've seen this several times.  I've learnt to treat this as a bug and upgrade/downgrade the IOS.

I've created a TAC Case and it is confirmed as a bug.

Re: WR and Reload Problem with AP

So if the fix is to clear the line, can't you just script that, clear the line before running the commands to get the config? Maybe your peers are not disconnecting properly. Tell your peers to log off properly if they telnet/ssh. Nothing else you can do about it.
