Notifying Requestor of issues with their request

We are looking to see if anyone has implemented or has any suggestions that would allow the Performer/QManager to be able to communicate back and forth with the requestor of any issues with a request within RequestCenter.  We are thinking use of the Comments/History, however, with a eMail notification to trigger checking the request.
