Restricted Permission to Create and Modify Email templates in RC

Restricted Permission to Create and Modify Email templates in RC

How can I allow a Project team member to work on creating and maintaining the site's email templates without allowing broader access to configuration elements?

There is a way to give a user who is not the Site Administrator the ability to create and modify email templates. Depending on which version of RequestCenter is in use, this may give access to edit other entities in the site.

For RequestCenter 2006.x the site permissions are as follows:

  •  Access ServiceCommunity
  • View site parameters
  • Change site parameters

In RC 2006.x we do not have a way to grant permission to ONLY email templates.

The role-based access control capabilities in RC2007.x have remedied this.

In RequestCenter 2007.x:

To grant email template create/modify access, the pertinent roles/capabilities/permissions are:

For broad access and capability:

You might grant a team member a far-reaching role, which allows many capabilities, such as Catalog Designer and Admistrator (role)

  • Enables users to create and manage the Service Catalog structure, including categories and access rights, which provides the foundation for supporting the Service Portfolio.
  • Users with this Role have Read/Write access to all objects within ServiceDesigner, as well as the ability to create e-mail templates, define the site authorization structure, and access the Catalog Installer.

For access only to email templates:

You might use a system-defined role with lesser powers, such as Distributed Service Component Designer...

  • Enables users to create and manage the end-user-facing aspects of Service Components, including description, price and cost, and service level details, which can be:
    • 1) published as the elements of an IT Services Catalog;
    • 2) combined and included in Service Offerings in the Service Portfolio; and/or
    • 3) used as the foundation for constructing requestable services.
  • This Role provides access to the General, Offer, and Presentation tabs within ServiceDesigner.

... as the basis for creating a new role, with an added capability: Manage Email Templates.

This would allow your team member to create and modify email notification templates as needed, wothout allowing access to broader aspects of the site design components.
