Service Group Security

We recently went production with RequestCenter 2007.1.2. During implementation all service designers had access to all service groups. We would now like to limit the access of service designers to specific service groups. Has anyone done this before? I see that it can be done with the use of Roles but is there a better way? We were advised not to create custom roles if possible. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, there is no problem with creating used-defined roles. Rather, this should be done judiciously and carefully.

I have attached a PDF that will walk you through the steps of doing just what you have described -- that is, creating a role which will enable a particular team/person to have all of the capabilities and permissions then need to configure services within a specific service group.
