How to upgrade IPS4240 Version 4.1(4)S91

I need to upgrade IPS4240 Version 4.1(4)S91 to 5.0. How do I start the process from IDM access

Re: How to upgrade IPS4240 Version 4.1(4)S91

The IDM is the GUI and is pretty self-explanatory (configuration->update sensor), but I would recommend you use the CLI. It's not quite as convenient (can't load upgrade directly from file on client), but is the supported way. The readme's explain how to do it:

Perhaps you are looking for the upgraded path from 4.1 to the latest?

4.x --> 5.0(1e) --> 5.1.4

I do not really recommend to perform the upgrade from IPS-MC.

IPS-MC is ok for the sigupdates, but may not properly handle such a major upgrade.

1. First, you need to download the upgrade packs :

Go to

and download :

and IPS-K9-sp-5.1-4.pkg

2. Put those files on one of your internal ftp/scp/http/https server, reachable from the sensor

(TFTP won't work)

3. Log in to the sensor CLI using an account with administrator privileges.

3. Enter configuration mode:

sensor# configure terminal

4. Upgrade the sensor:

sensor(config)# upgrade [UR>]/IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1e-S149.rpm.pkg

where the [URL] is a uniform resource locator pointing to where

the signature update package is located. For example, to retrieve

the update via FTP, type the following:

sensor(config)# upgrade ftp://@///

Again, The available transport methods are SCP, FTP, HTTP, or HTTPS.

5. Enter the appropriate password when prompted.

6. To complete the upgrade, type yes when prompted.

NOTE: The Sensor will reboot after installing each of the service pack service pack.

7. Replay the procedure with IPS-K9-sp-5.1-4.pkg

hope this helps.
