IPS password recovery on standby ASA

Hello - I need to do a password recovery on a ASA5520-AIP-SSM, ver 6.1(1)E2. This ASA is the standby unit in an Active/Standby configuration.

I know the command is hw-module module # password-reset. When the IPS module reboots, will it also reboot the ASA? If so, does the ASA come back up as the Standby unit? Just want to understand the expected behavior beforehand.

Thanks, Patrick

The hw-module commands should not cause any reboots of the ASA itself. Any reboots would be limited to the SSM card.

A password-reset shoudl cause a reboot of only the SSM.

If an hw-module command causing a reboot of the SSM is executed on the active ASA, then there will be a failover to the standby ASA.

If an hw-module command causing a reboot of the SSM is executed on the standy ASA, then this should Not cause an ASA failover. The active ASA should remain active.

Thank you for the concise response.

Password reset worked perfectly.
