Migrating from DC1500 to MC4500

Hello,

Our current setup includes series 3 sensors tied to a DC1500, all running the last 5.4.x version.

We recently purchased an MC4500 that was shipped with 6.2 out of the box.

What is the proper way to upgrade the series 3 sensors and sync them with the MC4500?

My current plan is to manually upload the .sh files to each sensor, upgrade them to 6.2, and then associate them with the 4500.

EDIT: The 6.0 upgrade script won't let me upgrade my sensors without having a manager assigned to it!

Thanks!

Hello there,

You might get upgrade problems after 1 or 2 upgrades (manual) as the sensor's manager would still be on 5.4 and sensors would move forward to 6.0

I would suggest to upgrade the DC 1500 as well to 6.1 along with sensors to 6.1 minimum and then register them to MC 4500 and then continue the upgrade to 6.2 from MC 4500.

It would be lengthy but more stable approach from my point of view.

Here are upgrade steps for DC 1500 assumings its on 5.4.1

Upgrade steps for Firepower Management Center

1. Install 6.0.0__Pre-install-5.4.1.999-4 Patch
2. Upgrade to 6.0.0.0
3. Install 6.0.1__Pre-install-6.0.0.999-1 Patch
4. Upgrade to 6.0.1.0
5. Install Pre-install-6.0.1.999-1230 Patch
6. Upgrade to 6.1.0.0

Upgrade steps for Firepower 7000 Series

1. Upgrade to 5.4.0.6
2. Install 6.0.0_Pre-install-5.4.0.999-1 Patch
3. Upgrade to 6.0.0.0
4. Upgrade to 6.0.1.0
5. Install Pre-install-6.0.1.999-30 Patch
6. Upgrade to 6.1.0.0

Yogesh's suggested path is the one that will work best. I recommend that as well.
