I think it should be possible, as what is required is to get to the CLI/console (sensor# ) with administrator privileges account. This can be done either via console or ssh session. But console is more preferred as you can immediately perform recovery if the upgrade failed.
The only task that really requires console is when you need to perfom system image recovery.
