How would I connect 2 sites together by 1 gig single mode fiber and not using a vpn. I wanted to directly connect both sites using 3850's in each location. The connection is for server replication and fail over. I was thinking of using a layer 3 switchport for my connection. The only caveat is I internet and vpn's at each site???

Hello, gen3rocco

Check table 2 on this link for network modules that you can use for connecting 3850, which comes with Gigabit or 10 Gigabit.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-3850-series-switches/data_sheet_c78-720918.html

If you wish to utilize data, voice and video on this connection, I recommend getting IP Services for advanced Layer 3 on a 3850. Let me know if you have additional concerns or e-mail (adawa@cisco.com) me directly. Kind regards.
