Hi Haytham,

- i need to download ESXI from vmware site or cisco will give it to me in a dvd?
Anand:
VMware vSphere ESXi and vCenter may be either customer-provided or purchased from Cisco.
Refer the below link for more information,

- how i can download the license for cucm which mac i should you?
Anand: You need to use the license MAC for this.
Issue the show status cli command from the command line interface to obtain the license MAC.

Hi Haytham,
Yes, you would need to do the refresh upgrade to go from 7.x to 9.0. Please refer to the following docs:

Hi Haytham,
Thanks for the details. It's quite straight forward actually. If you plan on doing a fresh install of CUCM and UC v 9.0 on the UCS servers and then do a DRS restore, then you do not need to apply the refresh upgrade file on those servers. However, you would need to do a refresh upgrade when upgrading from 7.x to 9.0 on the old MCS servers.

Hi Haytham,
In order to do a DRS restore onto a fresh install of 9.0 on the new UCS servers, you need to take a DRS backup. The requirement is that the versions should be the same for the DRS backup and DRS restore i.e. if you are planning to take a DRS backup from the MCS server, you would have to upgrade to 9.0 on the MCS platforms and then do a restore on UCS platform running 9.0.
As for the licensing, here is the link for generating the licenses:

HI
You can directly update from CUCM 7.1 to CUCM 9.0.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr1.pdf
But do you need bridge upgrade depends on your current hardware. See below link if both of your CUCM releases are supported in current hardare you donot need bridge upgrade.

Hi Harmit,
Thanks for your support.
let me give you more details about the upgrade.
We have four MCS servers 7835 ( 3xCUCM and 1xUnity server).
We bought two UCS server C210M2 and we need to install cucm and UC v 9.0 in the new server and restore the old database and old license in the old mcs servers.
USC 1 has PUB, SUB-1 and Primary UC
UCS 2 has SUB-2 and Secondary UC
Please advise.
Best Regards,
Haytham

Hi Harmit,
Thanks alot for your greate support.
I must upgrade from 7.1.5 to 9.0 on the mcs and take backup tehn install the cucm v 9.0 on the usc and make restore.
oor just i need to install the cucm and uc v 9.0 on ucs servers then restore the old database only.
what about the license? and how i can get the new virtual mac address and the new license?
Best Regards,
Haytham

Hi Haytham,
So that means you would need to run the refresh upgrade on the MCS servers while upgrading from 7.x to 9.0. Once the upgrade is complete, take a DRS backup --> Do a fresh install on the UCS platform --> Do a DRS restore.
Once the above is complete, you would need to apply for the software feature license for version 9.0. Also, you would need to get the phone unit and node license files rehosted with the new MAC address. You can get the virtual mac only once you have done the fresh install. You can issue "show status" from the CLI of the CUCM Pub and CUC Pub.
HTH.

Harmit.

Hi Harmit.
i will not upgarde from 7.x to 9.0 on the msc server.
i will install a fresh 9.0 on new ucs servers the i will use DRS restore. Is this right or not?
i this case no needs for refresh upgrade on the MCS servers.. is this right or not.
in the license i need to use file answer generator to or not?
please advise.

Haytham
