sip route pattern

Does anybody know why we need sip route pattern in CUCM 5.x/6.x? what does it do?

to route various dial pattern into your SIP gateway or Softswitch, so that gateway can route your dial pattern to the Internet carrier or PSTN

No, there is route pattern to do this, not "sip route pattern". You only define domain or IP address in it. It's different from the traditional route pattern.
