2821 SIP

Got a good one here. Customer is looking at using the 2821 router. They are being delivered an ethernet pipe from a co-location facility. It is carrying SIP G.729 traffic. They want to take this traffic and convert to T1 TDM for a server locally. Can CCME do this? Kind of a reverse router

I am wrong thinking that the IOS feature set with Session Border Control will do this?

Yes, an IOS feature set with Session Border Gateway - aka IPIP Gateway - will do this job.

The IOS will terminate the SIP signalling, which is then converted to H.323 to talk to the T1 TDM. There are three issues that you need to think about in configuring the DSPs:

(a) The number of voice channels. Each PVDM2-XX will cope with XX/2 number of G729a calls.

(b) The number of calls simultaneously on hold/transfer - these will require an MTP configured.

(c) The number of simultaneous voice conferences - these will require a XCoder.

If you use the DSP config tool these should be calculated for you automatically.

To enable the gateway function, you need to enter

voice service voip

allow-connections h323 to sip

allow-connections sip to h323

you will then need a dial peer

dial-peer voice 998 voip

destination-pattern (whatever)

session-protocol sipv2

session-target ipv4:

dtmf-relay rtp-nte

[dial peer defaults to g729]

you may also need to register to the SP

sip-ua

authentication username password realm

You need to be careful to test all scenarios -e.g. hold, conference, fax etc. Be aware that Music On Hold down G.729 sounds pretty terrible, and you have to transcode this on CME as there is no option to record a MOH in native G.729.

hi Dwight,

well i think its a job of DSP to convert from IP to TDM so no matter what you have there as long as they have DSP ther shouldnt be any issues.

So as long as I add a PVDM module to the router I should be OK?

Is there a way to make the IPIP GW proxy the registration to another server?
