2921 ISR G2, CME and TelMex R2

Hi,

we have to setup a Call Manager Express installation for a new company location in Mexico.

They ordered a "R2 PRI" line with 10 channels from Telmex. According to my information this line will be terminated on a Wattson Modem
with coax (BNC) output, to which a "Balun" (CCOM NIC-1) needs to be connected, where we can then connect our PBX (Cisco 2921) to.

I assume - and this is what I would like to find out here - that we need a T1/E1 - PRI - WIC in our Cisco 2921 router for this type of connection.

- Would the HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI be the right PRI adapter for this?

- Does anyone have some hints or configuration examples for CME on Telmex R2?

Many thanks!

Heinz

Hello

For ISDN trunk connection , yes you are completely true . But i think you are talkinf about Voice trunk solution of Mexico provider , so the selected will be as the below:-

VWIC3-1MFT-T1/E1

Kindly check the below document "Multiflex Trunk Voice & WAN Interface Cards"  :-

Hi,

I suppose the card HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI card is used for data applications.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/network-modules/product_data_sheet0900aecd80710c88.html

you need to opt for VWIC card

Hi,

we are using the HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI in many other locations for E1 (or T1 in the US) PRI connections

connected directly to CME routers, and these lines are used for telephony only.

Why should that card not working with the Telmex R2 connection? Isn´t this a PRI as well?

Hello

my friend , we know that . this card is so old which is used for 1st generation as 2800 series , and 3800 series  , and is combined for data & voice , me and Aman recommend for you the best module card for voice which is recommended by Cisco VWIC3 for 2nd generation because you mention that you are going to use 2921.

Ok, thanks.

So is it 100% sure that the adapter

VWIC3-1MFT-T1/E1

is working on the mentioned Telmex R2 connection?

Has anyone here ever configured this personally over there and could share some experiences?

hi

for module , yes it is ok do not worry. for configuration kindly find the below for telmex

In addition to What Kamal has said, you can speak to Telco as well , since they would have been doing lot of such installations with similar requirements.

regds,

aman

Many thanks!

We tried to get in contact with Telmex, but we have had no luck. It seems to be that no one speaks English over there.

They send the attached drawing. Obviously the "R2" line is being terminated on a Wattson modem, to which the Balun needs to be connected to.

Can anyone explain what the Balun is doing?

Basically , it converts Balanced to Unbalanced .

BNC [75 ohms ] to RJ-45 /UTP[120 ohms]
