Hello,
First of all, I realize this is a discontinued model but I still caught a deal on a brand new one so I decided to go for it.
There seems to be some confusion on what methods of PoE you can use on this phone. On the product sheet here at the cisco website I've noticed that it just says "Inline Power" but not necessarily anything about 802.3af IEEE PoE. After doing some googling I've found two different things, one says you can only use Cisco pre-standard inline power, but the other one says this:
"Newer Cisco equipment (7905G, 7941G, 7961G) is pin compatible with 802.3af, and no swapping is needed."
Can anyone clear this up for me so I can tell for sure what I need to get to make this phone work? I'm kind of paranoid to try to plug my IEEE 802.3af injector into if it's not supported, don't want to blow it up. :)
Thanks a bunch!

7905G Phones work on Cisco PreStandard PoE. AFAIK, it does not support IEEE 802.3af. The new model for this phone is 7906G which supports IEEE 802.3af.
Also, please keep in mind that most Cisco Switches with support 802.3af supports, cisco pre-standard power as well.
Hope this helps

Hi DJ/Mahesh,
Came across this recently;
Q. What IP phone models support the Cisco pre-standard method of powered device detection?
A. These Cisco IP phones can accept Cisco pre-standard PoE from a card integrated with a Cisco Catalyst switch or a Catalyst in-line power patch panel:
7985G
7960G
7940G
7910G
7910G + SW
7912G
7905G
7902G
These phones can draw local power from a power cube (CP-PWR-CUBE-2=) in addition to a country or regionally specific power cord (CP-PWR-CORD-xx=).
Q. What IP phone models support the IEEE standard method of powered device detection?
A. These Cisco IP phones support IEEE 802.3af PoE:
7961G-GE
7971G-GE
7941G
7931G
7911G
7941G-GE
Note: These Cisco IP phones support both the Cisco pre-standard PoE and IEEE 802.3af PoE:
7970G
7961G
7906G
