I was told that the 7914 would work with any phone...which is probably why it is not working with my 7940 phone (all buttons stay red)
I see now which phones are supported with it. Is there anyone who has verified whether the phone can work with a 7965G (the newer color phone)?
Please let me know, as this is urgent.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed (just in case :)
Yes, the 7914 is supported for use with the 7965G :)
Here is the Data Sheet;
Expansion Module Support
An optional add-on module, the Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7914, provides 14 additional buttons for programming directory numbers or speed dials. Up to two expansion modules may be used.

Hope this helps!

Hey Rob, looks like it works with 7965G. Mentioned in the datasheet.
But nothing mentioned in 7914s datasheet -
I take my words back.

Hey Ed,
7914 is not going to work with 7965G either.
Its spported on these phones -
7960G, 7961G, 7970G and 7971G-GE
Cisco has recently launched other expansion modules - 7915 and 7916 they are compatible with 7965G.

Sushil,
Are you saying it only based on the documentation, or real-world experience?
Because if you look at Rob's previous post, read the part about the button module:
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7965G
Which is correct? I wonder...

My statement was based on the datasheet.
I trust Rob.

Hmmm...so I was a little dubious at why the documentation was conflicting. But now I see the difference bewtween the 7914 and 7915...the 7914 has only 14 buttons, while the 7915 has 12 buttons and then a toggle switch to doulbe the capacity to 24 buttons. So, they are not the same product after all, and there is a glimmer of hope once I get the 7965 phone...I will test it out.
If anyone has any real-world experience with this, however, please do comment, by all means.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,
Looks like got enough documents which talks about 7965G support for 7914 module -
Q. Is the Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7914 supported?
A. The Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7914 is supported on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7965G. Up to two expansion modules may be attached. It is not supported on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7945G.
Note The 7975G, 7965G, and 7962G IP phones support the Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7914. You can add a maximum of two Expansion Modules to these IP phones.
and few more...
Apologize for misleading information.

Hi Ed/Sushil,
First off +5 points for following up Sushil :) Here is someone who is running this combination (7965G w/7914) Thanks Chris!
I also contacted one of my friends here in Calgary who is running these in his lab right now. You should be good to go!
Hope this helps!

Guys, my 7914 is *still* not working and making me feel like it's a hardware issue, more and more.
I have attached the module to both a 7960 and a 7970 and in either case, the buttons just stay red and no display comes up at all. On the phone, the status button does not show up with the expansion module, as well.
I have a UC520 and the SBN file is in the flash, the tftp-server settings and the telephony settings.
I don't get this. Is this hardware? It's brand new.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,
This could very well be a Hardware issue. Have a look at this good thread just in case;
Hope this helps!
