7940G IP Phone Speakerphone Full Duplex?

The speaker phone specs on a cisco 7940 state that the speakerphone is full duplex. It doesn't appear to behave that way. For example,

- user is using 7940 speakerphone for conferencing with other people,

- user is talking, other people join Sprint conference,

- user talking and doesn't hear other people chime in or join the conference (audible tones and a beep).

what bites is that this worked on a nortel speakerphone. Any suggestions? Thinking of ordering an IP conference station for the big wig.

Hi Jenn,

Full Duplex on speakerphones is always "touch and go" especially when using Conference Bridges. There was an OLD Bug relating to the Full Duplex capabilities on the 7940's CSCdw93017 but I doubt if that is what you are hitting. I would suggest trying a different 7940 and maybe even a different firmware before buying a 7936 :) The 7936 is an excellent Conference phone but there are still a number of variables at play here.

What we use for people who are often on long Conference calls are "Cordless Headsets" like the Plantronics CS50. They like them because they can get up and move around, grab a coffee etc. Perhaps that would solve this issue as well.

Hope this helps!
