7941 phone went into ip configuring state

A 7941 phone just went  into the "ip configuing" state.

plugged another phone into that network cable and that phone worked fine.

Plugged the malfuntioning phone into another network jack - still "ip configuing".

Reset phone via Call Manager - still malfuntioning. Also attempted to reset phone to factory defaults.

The Settings Access in the Call Manager is "Restricted". Changed to "Enabled" but it did not register on the phone so could not check DHCP.

Any ideas?  Is it just broken?  The maintenance on this phone expired 5 days ago.  Wouldn't you know it.

Hey Mary,

Hope all is well my friend

This is likely an error related to a "sticky" DHCP config or

something of that sort. The Network side of the house is not

my area of expertise (not much is these days) but we do have

this type of thing happen on occasion, especially when a phone

is moved during our network re-design phase. I really doubt the

phone is "toast". I would try to remove it from the CUCM config

and let it sit on a shelf for a few days before firing it back up

my bet is that it will be just fine.

Cheers!

Thanks, Rob.  Have a  great holiday!

Hi Mary,

Happy holidays to you as well buddy!

Let us know how this works out, and if this IP Phone

becomes a lovely gift as a Bookend or Paperweight

or goes back to it's rightful place as a powerful communication

tool.

Cheers!

Rob

Rob,

reset the phone several different ways; via Call Manager, reseating IP cable; reset to factory defaults and many more numerous times and ways. Had all kinds of bizarre problems and even blew out the phone display screen one time. The “setting” button was set to “restricted” .  “Enabled” the Settings button but the change could not get to the phone because the IP address status was “not found”.  Last thing we did was temporarily turn on DHCP on the Call Manager and the phone got an IP address and reset...  We probably had that poor phone so confused....  Thanks again for all your help. You never disappoint.

Hey Mary,

Thanks for posting back with your results (+5)

Well, at least it didn't become a lovely Christmas gift

This stuff never ceases to amaze me that's for sure. I have had

many experiences that were never really fully explained - almost paranormal. One tool that

really helps when trying to understand whats really going on is something like

"WireShark".

Cheers!
