7941G and 7970G converting to SIP

James Harries

Hi,

Does anyone know how to convert either a 7941G or 7970G to SIP....All I want to do is test a new SIP trunk I have that is mapped to a local number. I have a Linksys WAN300 ADSL router connected to BT broadband, a Laptop and a 7941G connect to the WAN300 switch ports....All I want to do is use either the 7970 or 7941 in standalone mode....Can this be done? TAC have said it can be done but their do not support it. They only support the 7940 and 7960's to work in standalone mode.

Can anyone help.

Kind Regards

James

Hi James,

That's correct, we only support the following phones running SIP with a third party proxy:

     7905, 7912, 7940 and 7960.

The process for this is detailed at the following:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_tech_note09186a0080094584.shtml

No support is provided for using the other 7900 series phones with 3rd party proxies.  It looks like others have tried this though - I saw the following on Google:
