Adding Extension Mobility as a softkey - 7911

Looking to rollout hot desking across various sites using extension mobility.

All looking okay except for the cumbersome way that users login to the phones > menu > services > user id / password

I was looking to modify the softkey template so that the user could press an extension mobility softkey: but there is not an extension mobility softkey option on the list - there is a mobility but this is no good.

Is there a way to add / define softkeys on the list so that there would be more choice to customise the softkey template.

Initially going to rollout to selected 7911 handsets - using CUCM v 7

Hello Yulem,

Unfortunately adding EM as a softkey on 7911 is not supported.

In order to achieve what you are looking for, the phone must have Programmable Line Keys (PLK), which is not the case for the 7911:

The Programmable Line Key (PLK) feature allows you  to program feature buttons or URL services button on line key buttons.  You can configure line keys with line buttons, speed dials, BLF speed  dials, feature buttons and url buttons

http://tools.cisco.com/squish/011c0

As you can see, 7911 is not a PLK supported model.

I hope it helps,

German

Hi Yulem,

Sadly not my friend

If the option is not offered as a Softkey it cannot be added/customized.

If you were using IP Phone models other than the 7911 you could use the Programmable Line Key (PLK) feature which was added to CUCM in the 6.x version release;

Programmable Line Keys

Cisco Unified IP Phones support line buttons (the buttons to the right of the display), which are used to initiate, answer, or switch to a call on a particular line. A limited number of features, such as speed dial, extension mobility, privacy, BLF speed dial, DND, and Service URLs, get assigned to these buttons.

The Programmable Line Key (PLK) feature expands the list of features that can be assigned to the line buttons to include features that softkeys normally control; for example, New Call, Call Back, End Call, and Forward All. When you configure these features on the line buttons, they always remain visible, so you can have a "hard" New Call key.

Programmable line keys support up to 27 features on line buttons

The programmable line feature does not affect the existing softkey functionality. Softkeys still display as required and will continue to be specific to the state of the phone (for example, making a call, being in a call, navigating the Services menu).

If a feature is already assigned to a programmable line key, it can also appear as a softkey (and vice versa).

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply to my question Rob and German.

I was trying various ways to try to achieve my goal but was getting no where.

Just thought it would be easier for end users to hit a soft key to access EM rather than navigate to this option.

Will have a look at other models of Cisco IP phones to adjust templates to accomodate the EM softkey.
