I am doing presales for a customer and we are recommending Cisco 7900 Series phones.

They have several small sites with 1 to 7 users.

They already have Linksys PoE Switches in the small sites.

I have tesed the Voice VLAN successfully in the Lab by statically changing the Operational VLANID to the Voice VLAN.

However after a couple reboots or a hard power reset the OP Vlan seems to not stick, and the phone goes back to the data VLAN.

Is there a way or does anyone know if there is a DHCP option setting or other method to set the OP ID dynamically?

I know it is possible on Avaya because Avaya has you put Option 242 on the Data VLAN. The phone gets the option and switches the phone to the voice VLAN.

The only way to auto set the VLAN is via CDP as far as I know.

The same applies to things like setting the trusted QoS boundary; perhaps if the sites you have in mind are small enough you could just forget the whole VLAN idea altogether?

You could still enforce QoS policies etc at the site edge.

Thank you.

There are ways around most things.

I have a way of creating trust boundaries, which is just about the same and a workaround for this issue, however it just doesn't keep beyond 4 or 5 reboots of the phone.

Avaya phones use option 242 in TFTP.

I could go flat and may, if I have to.

There still will be places where I can use this so I will continue to pursue.
