BE5K upgrade to 9

Hello.  I have a Business edition 5000 running on a MCS 7828H3.  Its versions are CUCM System version: 6.1.3.1000-16 , and CUC Version 2.1.3ES23.1000-23.

Am I to follow the upgrade docs for full CUCM/CUC?  Also, i know there are requirements when using the 7828 and 7825 that you need an externally powered 128G usb drive.  Is this still true for BE5K?

As the voicemail storage is on box, Im assuming that the upgrade iso will also take care of any message store reconfigs.

Thoughts and comments are appreciated.  Thanks

Yes, you'll need a USB HD if upgrading to 8.6 or above:

You must attach a 128-GB USB drive to the Connection server if you are upgrading a Cisco MCS 7825-H3 server, the equivalent HP DL320G5, or a Cisco MCS 7828-H3 server (for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition). This is because the upgrade converts these servers from hardware RAID to software RAID, and the hard disks are reformatted. The USB drive is required so Connection data and voice messages are not lost during the upgrade.

Here is the BE5k release notes and product docs:

Normal doc for hardware compatibility though:

It's one upgrade; both products will be upgraded together. The products only exist as separate entities with the BE6k. In 5k it's one OS, one Informix instance, two products.

Thanks for the quick response.  I plan on using the same USB drive for the CUCM upgrade portion as well. Since the upgrade is a single iso, my thought process is to use the USB to upgrade CUCM, then re-use it to upgrade CUC.  See any problems with this?

thanks again for the info.

I would still be bound by the upgrade paths, correct.  ie, i believe there is no direct upgrade from 6.1.3 to 9.  the fact that it is a BE5K does not change the upgrade path, correct?

Absolutely. Normal upgrade path applies.
