Call Manager 5.1.2.3 upgrade to 8.6

My customer already ordered the new server (MCS7835I3-K9-CMD3A) for running Call Manager v8.6.

In the existing environment, the Call Manager is running version 5.1.2.3000.002.

I will use the new server to replace the existing server.

However, may I know the procedure for export the existing version database and convert/Import to v8.6?

Is Cisco have any tools for converting the database?

Call Manager 5.1.2.3 upgrade to 8.6

The only way to upgrade the database to make it usable with 8.6 is to upgrade to 8.6.  From 5.1.2 and upgrade would require multiple upgrade steps, probably something like upgrading to 6.1.3 then to 7.1.5 first and then upgrading to 8.6.  You can find the upgrade paths from this document:

Call Manager 5.1.2.3 upgrade to 8.6

Hi Ivan,

1. Create a test cluster with 5.1.2 installed on all the new servers

with backup restored on them from the production server.

2. As the MAC address of PUB server would be different from the previous one, so, get all

phone, node and software feature licenses from the licensing team for new PUB server with

call manager 5.1.2 version.

3. Now, as per the upgrade path (depends on the version you are ultimately trying to

upgrade to)you can upgrade to the nest version and then to the final version.

4. Please get software feature license for call manager version 8 for new Publisher

server.

5. Software feature license is required every time you change the call manager version

train. i.e move from one version to a higher version.

6.Then finally replace the old cluster with the test cluster during off production hours.

Following are some the upgrade paths to go to 8.6.X from 5.1.2, which I

could find:

5.1(2)>>6.1(3b)>>7.1(5)>>8.6(1a)

5.1(2)>>6.1(3b)>>7.1(5)>>8.6(2)

5.1(2)>>6.1(3b)>>7.1(5)>>8.6(2a)

Call Manager 5.1.2.3 upgrade to 8.6

May I know which upgrade path is the best or suggested path after upgrade from 6.1(3b)?

I would prefer the less number of intermediate upgrades to reach the 8.6.
