Re: call manager backup

You did not specify a CUCM version.  For appliance models, you would need to add an external

tape drive via the USB interface.  Ask your partner/Cisco account team about part numbers:

• DAT-USB-EXT-72= (optional external USB Digital  Audio Tape [DAT] tape drive)

•  DAT-USB-RM-72= (optional rack-mount USB DAT tape drive)

•  DAT-USB-ADPT= (required if DAT-USB-EXT-72= or DAT-USB-RM-72= are used)

I have not used these myself.  For pre-appliance days (i.e. CM 4.x) you could order your HP/IBM server with an approved internal DAT.  There may have been an approved external DAT as well.  I just don't recall seeing one.

The alternative (and my preferred approach) is to backup the CUCM cluster to an off box location using SFTP.  Then worry about getting a tape drive or backup agent attached to that off box backup server.

Re: call manager backup

If you want to specify a "tape drive" as the backup destination then a physical drive would be required, yes.  Otherwise you can send the backup to a network location via SFTP.

Pre-appliance models had a similar rule.  "Tape" meant locally or direct attached archive.  "Local" meant a local file and "network" meant that BARS would copy the backup to an offbox location.
