Hi,
Can someone please help me understand how licensing work? My call manager report says that I have 1000 total licenses, 980 used and 20 free. but I don't have 980 units. currently, only 125 handsets are installed. how does this licensing work?

Hi,
CCM uses DLU..Device license units to license IP phons. The number of units consumd by each IP phone depends on the model of the IP Phone.
Each 7940, 7941, 7960 and 7961 Phone consumes 4 DLU per phone.
What that means is that if you have 200 7940/41/60/61 IP Phone you will need 800 DLU.
7970/7971 takes 5 DLU/phone. Hence if you have 200 7940/41/60/61 and 100 7970/71 IP phones, you will need a total of
200x4 = 800
100x5=500
Making a total of 1,3000 DLU.
Attached is a DLU spread sheet calcultor.

On the callmanager GUI go to System>Licencing>Licence Unit Calculator and that will explain all to you. As its name suggests, it will also work out how many DLU's you are consuming at the moment and how many you will need if you add more devices to your system.
Hope this helps.
