Caller hears two rings before the phone actually rings

Hi Guys,

I have a customer who is using UC560 and all the incoming/outgoing lines are from PSTN.

When a call comes in, the caller hears 2 rings before the phone actually starts ringing.

If we call internally, then all good.

On customer side, the phone rings only 4 times but on caller side, it rings 6 times (number of rings are set to 4 rings)

Does the rings at the caller side are ringing in the exchange?

Can anyone please let me know if this is right or not?

Regards,

Rachna

its available in call routing->routepattern

option

please check if this works

Have a nice day

Hi

Vishvak

The guy says this is a UC500 (CME)

Sounds more like a PLAR OPX issue on the voice port

Hi Boys,

Yes, this is UC560 and lines are connected on FXO lines.

Alex, this is the config for UC on voice ports. There are 8 FXO lines terminating on UC560.

Hi,

The config on the FXO ports is causing the delay between the caller

hearing the ring tone and the phones ringing

!

voice-port 0/1/0

trunk-group ALL_FXO 64

supervisory disconnect dualtone mid-call

output attenuation -3

cptone AU

timing min-ring 62

timing opx-ringwait 2000

As this is a UC500 I must assume that IP phones are in

close proximity to the Uc500 router.

I can not see why the port is configured as OPX (Off Premiises Extension)

Can you change the config on ONE port that you could test

!

voice-port 0/1/0

no timing min-ring 62

no timing opx-ringwait 2000

no connection plar opx 199

connection plar 199

!

Try on ONE FXO port

If it solves the issue this apply to all FXO ports

What is the difference between connection plar and connection plar opx.

Caller hears two rings before the phone actually rings

Hi,

PLAR OPX ( Private Line Automatic Ringdown -Off Premises Extension)

- this infers that the destination of the PLAR object is not on the same premises as the voice port.

Imagine a H323 Gateway with the voice port is in Paris but say the control for the PLAR is in London could be a CUCM server.

This would be OPX

If the voice port is located in very close proximity to the PLAR control IE a UC500 (CME) it is really the same box the it is not OPX.

The OPX facility allows a delay by the local router (voice port) playing back alert tone before the call has been fully set up.

I reckon this is why you are hearing the ring tone well before the phones actually ring.

Caller hears two rings before the phone actually rings

Hi Alex,

I tried to connect the FXO lines to an analog phone and ddid testing. Its all fine.

But when the lines are termination on UC560, only then the ringing issue appears.

I tried to change the connection plar opx to connection plar and undo the timing commands, but no difference. It still rings twice on the caller side before the actual cisco phones starts rining.

What sort of caller ID does the line have? I've seen a similar thing on a 1760V with an FXO port configured as a gateway on CUCM... the caller hears ringing but the router doesn't pass the call to CUCM until it's collected the caller ID information, which causes a delay (ISTR that some forms of caller ID pass the digits between the first and second ring?).

Also on the OPX  question - with an FXO port configured "connect plar 1234" the router will answer the line itself when it detects an incoming call and then place a call to the extension specified (generating it's own ringing tone back towards the caller until the extension answers), but with "connect plar 1234 opx" it signals an incoming call to CUCM but it *doesn't* pick up the line or generate a ring tone until extension 1234 lifts the handset (or goes to VM, or whatever).

hi mcreilly

Can you please ellaborate the caller id thing. how can I check that?

Thank you for the answer. I understand it now.
