Can't add peer

This is a new problem that I'm posting in case someone else runs into it.

3845 w/ CME 4.1, IOS 12.4(11)XJ4. After almost six weeks of uptime on a busy installation, the error above is returned when trying to add ephone-dn.

Reloading router fixed the issue.

I would hope it can be reproduced for a bug to be filed, but realize that it may be difficult to do so... sigh.

Re: Can't add peer

I have been deploying 12.4.15T for CME 4.1 and have not seen any issues. Perhaps upgrading IOS is a solution :-)

Re: Can't add peer

Hi,

I have already posted this conversation in this forum, but i have not any solution.

I think the error is in the IOS version.

changing the IOS is the solution.

Re: Can't add peer

Sounds like a memory leak may be eating memory gradually. Each dial peer or ephone-dn takes up around 10K of memory. So if you have a leak, you run out of available memory to create the peers.

Something else to check - make sure you have not changed iomem settings - if there is too much memory dedicated for IO you can run out main system memory -

CME-Switch(config)#memory-size iomem ?

<5-50> percentage of DRAM to use for I/O memory: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50

You may need to default this setting and reload the router.

Another gotcha is setting up 'logging buffered ' - this may prevent adding peers as it reserves system memory. Make the setting as low as possible or remove the command.

Re: Can't add peer

Yes, memory leak or data corruption.

However, I did a "show proc" and there was still plenty of free memory.

iomem is default a log buffer usage still small.

The problem here is that first is difficult to reproduce, and second, once it happens, all the sanity checks you can do are not pointing to the exact software cause.
