Can the PA know the BOSS's IP Phone is busy?

We have CCM4.3 setup with unity 4.0(5)(unified messaging), integrated with lotus notes 6.5 server.

Currently the BOSS and PA have two different IP Phones CCM extentions?

Can some configuration be done in CCM, so that somehow the PA is highlighted that the BOSS's phone is busy?

If not, is there any extra application is available from Cisco to achieve this?

You could add a shared line appearance on the P.A.`s phone and then set the bosses line appearance on her phone not to ring on her her phone etc for incoming calls. That way every time he picks up the phone or is on a call the line button on her phone will illuminate. What phone models are they using ?

Both are using 7960 phones

Just add this as you would add any directory number to an ip phone. The only difference is that instead of selecting line 1, you will select line 2 on the P.A.`s phone.Ensure also the button template on the PA`s phone is set to two lines or more.So..

Device>phone> (search for PA`s phone)>line 2> then add bosses DN by populating the relevant fields....

Just two more questions:

1)For incoming calls,are the phones working in parallel, i.e. when boss is talking, can the PA listen here conversation by picking her phone.

2)How about about outbound calls, if the PA calls, will the boss line also get engaged? or he also can call independently?

3)If boss is on outgoing call, can the PA listen his conversation by picking her phone?

hi,

1)No she will not be able to listen in on that line only see that its busy. There is a seperate feature called barge for that.

2)Outbound calls, when she goes off hook, the phone will automatically select line 1 which is her line unless she manually selected line 2 to make an outgoing call in which case yes the line will be engaged.

3)Same answer as question 1.

Will this not impact on the MWI/voicemail for Boss/PA. specially MWI because, the boss extn now is PA second line?

This will not impact the MWI on the 7960's. The default setting in CCM is to light the RED MWI Lamp only for messages related to the Primary Line (button # 1) and show the Flashing Envelope Icon beside the DN of messages related to all other Lines (no RED MWI Lamp).

If you wanted to change this behaviour then tweak the Message Lamp Setting in CCM for the Line appearances on a device by device basis;

For the Line Setting on(each phone)-

Line Settings for this Device - Changes affect only this device

Message Waiting Lamp Policy - Light and Prompt

The RED Message Lamp will then work for these Second lines on each phone.
