i have question regarding packet capture on cucmbe. is there any performance issue on the system and since i am monitoring the issue to see if it occurs again therefore i dont have the exact time on how long i will be capturing packets. will that effect the drive space.
The command captures to the memory buffer until it ends and writes the pcap file to disk. This means that you cannot run it in an open-ended fashion as it will eventually exhaust the system memory. You can buy time by narrowing it in on a specific IP address but the command isn't intended to be running for an extended period of time. You could SPAN the ports/VLAN the server is on through the switch to a dedicated machine running Wireshark.
