CCM4 and previous runs on a Windows platform with a MS SQL database.
CCM5 and greater runs on a RHEL platform with an Informix database.
There used to be rumors that you would be able to pick your platform (Windows or Linux) but I think that isn't going to happen which is probably for the better. I think the switch to the Linux "appliance" model was a great move. Much easier to support and patch. Hopefully more applications get ported to the model. IPCC would be great and I wouldn't think it would be all that tough considering it is just a java application. Full blown Unity would be a little tougher considering how intertwinded it is with MS Exchange and AD.
Hope this helps.
