CCM & CCME NTP Best Practice?

Hi

We have an issue with regards to time synchronisation within our network, where our CCM/CCMEs derive the clock from a Core switch in at our central site in the UK, with a backup in Holland. Neither of these core switches is deriving its clock from another source.

I am thinking of suggesting a dedicated authenticated server (e.g Symmetricom) to be used at each location as the source, but was wondering whether there is a best practice scenario with regards to CCM/CCME network?

Any help and/or advice would be most appreciated

Thanks in advance

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

We have our CUCM use NTP from an external time service and our remote CMEs also use this external NTP server. Time settings for the phones locally are amended from the NTP time via Date-Time groups on CUCM registered phones and by time-zone command within telephony-service on CME.

This works well for us as all of the logs are sychronised to one time (UTC/GMT), while we can still maintain the correct local time on the phones.

Cheers,

Phil

Switches as in "catalyst switches" are very bad for NTP.

Just allow one tow router to get time from the Internet, use them as server for all the others.

It works perfectly.
