Hello we a currently using CIPC 8.6.3 and have no integration between CUCM and Lync. Some of our users are experiencing a change in status when using CIPC. Has anyone ran into this and what can be the cause of this? When I compare profiles they are identical with users not having this status change.

Yes, within Lync it is changing the presence status from available to busy while on a call.

You sure you don't have a SIP Trunk between CUCM and LYNC?
