I wanted to see if anyone can provide me with documentation that clearly states that the Cisco 187 ATA is not PoE capable or is PoE capable.
The data sheets make no reference to PoE however in the troubleshooting and Maintenance guide it there is some information about PoE. I am not sure if it is accurate or not.
In most cases, a phone will restart if it powers up by using external power but loses that connection and switches to PoE. Similarly, a phone may restart if it powers up by using PoE and then gets connected to an external power supply.

Hi Greg,
The ATA 187 can only be powered using the "external" power supply. It looks like that section of the maintenance guide may have been clipped from another un-related Cisco doc
Here is the power note that is accurate;
The ATA 187 is powered with external power. External power is provided through a separate power supply.

Rob,
Thanks for the confirmation. +5
Any clue who to report this to at Cisco to make sure they are putting out good documentation?

Hey Greg,
You are always welcome my friend
There is a "Feedback" link at the top of the .pdf where you can submit the related info/anomaly.
Cheers!
Rob
