Is there a way to emulate a traditional BLF (busy lamp field) on a 7960 with a 7914 expansion module? For example, a receptionist has a call come into the main number and needs to transfer the call to Bill at extension 0002. In a true BLF setup she should be able to see the status of line 002 on her expansion module either by icon or lamp color. The receptionist could tell the caller that Bill is on the line and that he could have Bill's voice mail or just transfer the call to the extension by hitting transfer and then the button on the quick dial that corresponds to the line.
Currently to get the line status we have the receptionist set up as a peer on the line so she can see the status but she cannot use that button as a transfer quick dial. She has to dial the extension. Bill does not want for the receptionist to be able to see his missed calls or to look at the recently placed calls from his DID. Having his extension on her set makes this possible. He also does not want for her to see if he has a massage. To make it worse, since the receptionist can see all of the lines, if she picks up the phone to make a call, she might inadvertently pick up a DID call for Bill that was not supposed to go through the reception.
