I have six Cisco IP Phones 7911G with no LCD output. The only sign "of life" is the green light on services button.
On two of them there is network activity after power up, with DHCP Discover packets, but they do not accept the DHCP offer.
At this moment, I have two questions:
1. Is there any way to get a console access to these phones?
2. Is there any way to send a new boot file to these phones via BOOTP or similar process?
I hope someone could have a solution to my problem.
Kind regards,
Nuno Carpentier

Hi,
try a factory reset
Step 1 Unplug the power cable from the phone and then plug it back in.
The phone begins its power up cycle.
Step 2 While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button flashes on and off,
press and hold #.
Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence in amber.
Step 3 Release # and press 123456789*0#.
You can press a key twice in a row, but if you press the keys out of sequence, the factory reset will not take place.
After you press these keys, the line buttons on the phone flash red and the phone goes through the factory reset process.
Do not power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process and the main screen appears.

Hi Alex,
I have no luck.
I cannot have the line button flashes on and off in amber. There is a fixed green light on "services" button (this button is the one with a globe sign just above the key with number "3".
Can I try anything else?
Kind regards,
Nuno Carpentier

Nuno,
The sequence I gave is the only one I can find for defaulting
7911s.
You said above that 2 of the phones are sending DHCP requests.
I have had trouble before where this issues has been 802.1Q related.
Can you set up a port on your lan switch that is purely in the
Voice VLAN.
Something like this:-
!
int fast 1/0/1
shut
desc TEST 7911
switchport host
switchport access vlan 777
! Where 777 is the VOICE VLAN for example.
no shut
!
Then attach a 7911 that IS sending DHCP requests
You might as well give it a go.
Regards
Alex

hello Nuno Carpentier
i had this problem, but i can resolve that.
you can run a TFTP Server on a computer and setup a dhcp server on Windows Server and set option 150 with your TFTP server IP Address.
then you can download frameware for 7911G from
http://www.firewall.cx/downloads/doc_download/116-7906-a-7911-ip-phone-sccp-a-sip.html
and unzip that and put files on the root of TFTP Server directory.
power on the phone and wait,,,
your phone give ip add from dhcp server and find TFTP.
then automaticaly update frameware and coming up.
