Cisco IP phone problem

Dear all,

I have a POE Catalyst 3750 24 ports switch and 2 unit of Cisco IP phone (7940 & & 7911), the current scenario encountered for me is switchport fa0/22 can bring up IP phone 7911 but not phone 7940, but when I try the phones on other few different switchports there are no problem, other ports can bring up both phones, 7911 & 7940.

Example :-

Let's say I try phone 7911 and 7940 into switchport fa0/20, both tested successful and the phones were power up and operational.

But when I try connect phones to switchport fa0/22, phone 7911 was power up and successful on port fa0/22 but if connect the phone 7940 will have error log message and port fa0/22 remained down.

So far I have tried connect the 7940 phone to few other switchport tested okay but only having problem when using in port fa0/22, but if I connect phone 7911 on port fa0/22 everything is good.

All the switchports have the following similliar configuration with CDP and POE enabled :-

interface FastEthernet0/X

switchport access vlan 10

switchport mode access

switchport voice vlan 11

srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20

srr-queue bandwidth shape  10  0  0  0

mls qos trust device cisco-phone

mls qos trust cos

auto qos voip cisco-phone

spanning-tree portfast

spanning-tree bpduguard enable

end

when I connect phone 7940 on port fa0/22 the following logs keep appearing and pouring out

%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface FastEthernet2/0/22, changed state to down

Switch 3750# sh power inline fa0/22

Interface Admin  Oper      Power    Device              Class Max

                                    (Watts)

--------- ------ ---------- ------- ------------------- ----- ----

Fa0/22  auto   off          0.0            n/a                 n/a   15.4

What is PD mean in the log? I have tried also shut and no shut port fa0/22 but same, this cannot be a bad phone or possible bad cable problem right because phone 7940 tested in other ports is ok and port fa0/22 can powered up phone 7911 without any problem.

Anyone have any idea what happening here? this symptom look very strange and weird to me, not sure how to check in the first place

What is Cisco PD detected when I connect phone 7940 into fa0/22 ? other ports able to detect it as IP Phone 7940 when connected but not port fa0/22

Looks like you have power issue on following port.

Try to assign power manually

int fa2/0/22

power inline static max 15400

And see if  you have enough power in your switch by using 'show power inline'. Some of CISCO model don't have power for switch ports they can only provide power to half of the ports, ports can be selected in any order.

Restart the switch if it show ambar color light when you wana view interface status of poe devices. The ambar light often come.
